Not only are these appointments clinically effective, but they also provide a personal connection with patients in disconnected times. Family Nurse Practitioner Angela Kern notices nearly all her patients bring up their isolation and anxiety during tele-medicine appointments:
“When there’s so much uncertainty, patients feel better simply being able to express it, even if the call was for another reason. I’ve been told so many times how grateful our patients are that we are open and providing care… It’s reassuring to patients to know there’s someone at the other end of the phone who can help, even in the middle of a crisis.”
Even with telemedicine, many patients have needs that require being seen in person. Wallace has kept its clinic doors open to ensure all our patients’ needs are met.
For all we are doing to keep our patients safe and healthy today, the near future will bring new challenges and demand a greater, more creative response from Wallace than ever before. Families already facing dire poverty and health inequities before this crisis will face even greater strain in its aftermath. We are preparing for that moment.
