The Reuler Fund
Forty years ago, in a donated hotel room in Portland’s Old Town with just two volunteers, Wallace established a medical open door for all, where cost was never a barrier to good care.
Today, Wallace provides a full range of medical, dental, and behavioral health services to thousands of underserved individuals, families, and students, with multiple clinics and a dedicated staff of more than 100.
We’re amazed when we reflect on the growth and transformation of our organization over these years. Still, we’re most proud of what hasn’t changed: Wallace’s commitment to meeting patients where they are and to offer care no matter their circumstances.
In this spirit, we created the Reuler Family Fund for Patient Support. Now ten years old, the Reuler Fund ensures that everyday non-medical needs never become barriers to good health. Recently, the Reuler Fund has been used for:
- Utility bills while a patient recovers and returns to work
- Temporary housing for a patient escaping domestic violence
- Hot, home-cooked meals for food-insecure patients
- Gas cards, taxi rides, and bus tickets for patients unable to make it to their health care appointment
The fund is 10 years old and is a valued, flexible resource for our staff—it helps with individual patient situations, as well as food security initiatives. It has been funded entirely by private donations from individuals, local foundations, and other community organizations.
Please know your support is making a difference in the lives of our patients everyday. Thank you!
