Over the last 30 years the practice of Yoga has become much more common place in our society and gradually the overall benefits of a consistent yoga practice are being understood and experienced. The practice of yoga initially was and is seen as a purely physical. It is easy to overlook the ability of a yoga practice to help unit the mind, body and spirit. Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘to unite’. This is what makes the practice of yoga different from traditional forms of exercise. Yoga creates the unique opportunity to bring your attention to the mind, body and breath simultaneously. In other words yoga brings harmony to your entire being. And when you feel at ease in your physical body, in your mind and heart, it becomes easier to show up to life with your full being present.
My teaching goal always is to ensure that every student feels that they can practice yoga. Guiding students to learn that yoga is a relationship build between the body, the mind, the heart and the breath. I focus on teaching students to use proper alignment, bandha (muscle engagement) and breath for each pose and to find a structure or modification of the pose that will work for their body at that moment in time. I teach to help students meet themselves where they are in each moment on and off the mat.
The yoga class at Wallace Medical Concern has been ongoing for over 5 years now. It is a community class open to all, held every Tuesday from 1:30pm until 2:30pm. The class is available to all, whether you are healing, new to yoga or experienced. Mats and chairs are available for student use.
